Integrating Diabetes Prevention Services into a Primary Care Practice
Welcome to Information Uncover. We are a strategic management consulting company. We have been in business for over twenty years. We help primary care practices integrate diabetes prevention services into the organizations. As part of our integration approach, we employ results from the landmark Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) study, which was sponsored by the NIDDK (National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases), which is part of the NIH (National Institutes of Health). The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) currently sponsors the National DPP, which is a translated version of the procedures used in the original NIDDK DPP study. The CDC periodically publishes a set of DPP Standards that we introduce and advocate adherence to as part of our DPP integration advice.
The NIDDK's DPP study took place between 1996 and 2001. The study utilized treatment approaches for elevated glucose that is higher than normal but not high enough to be called diabetes. Healthcare providers now call this condition prediabetes. Diabetes prevention services treat prediabetes, and in many cases, delay or prevent type 2 diabetes. This delay or prevention is beneficial to the patient, and the delay or prevention can lower healthcare costs. Lowering healthcare costs is attractive to payers, and a good number of payers are inclined to pay organizations that successfully implement and offer DPP services.
