Strategic Management: Navigating the Healthcare Environment for Primary Care Organizations

Integrating Diabetes Prevention Services into a Primary Care Practice

Welcome to Information Uncover. We are a strategic management consulting company.  We have been in business for over twenty years. We help primary care practices integrate diabetes prevention services into the organizations. By integrating diabetes prevention into a practice, the organization can improve patient health and potentially increase revenue.

As part of our integration approach, we employ results from the landmark Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) study, which was sponsored by the NIDDK (National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases), which is part of the NIH (National Institutes of Health). The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) currently sponsors the National DPP, which is a translated version of the procedures used in the original NIDDK DPP study. The CDC periodically publishes a set of DPP Standards that we introduce and advocate adherence to as part of our DPP integration advice.

The NIDDK's DPP study took place between 1996 and 2001. The study utilized treatment approaches for elevated glucose that is higher than normal but not high enough to be called diabetes. Healthcare providers now call this condition prediabetes. Diabetes prevention services treat prediabetes, and in many cases, delay or prevent type 2 diabetes. This delay or prevention is beneficial to the patient, and the delay or prevention can lower healthcare costs. Lowering healthcare costs is attractive to payers, and a good number of payers are inclined to pay organizations that successfully implement and offer DPP services.

We continually Uncover, review and analyze information pertinent to the healthcare industry, with a special focus on diabetes prevention and overfat-related topics. Our review and analysis allow us to learn about research, issues, and new methods that can enable us to help primary care organizations integrate processes, especially diabetes prevention processes, in a cost effective manner. By implementing these processes, a healthcare organization can improve patient outcomes.

The activities we engage in, in general, can help us help organizations identify actions they can take to seize opportunities and avoid threats. One of the activities we engage in is called environmental scanning and analysis. This is where we examine and analyze the business environment to uncover strategic information. An overview of our environmental scanning and analysis approach is given here. An example of an environmental scanning and analysis study is given here. And some ideas on how strategic analysis may be viewed are given here.

We keep abreast of the overall healthcare industry. We examine the diabetes prevention and overfat segments on an ongoing basis. We attend healthcare industry events, including conferences and webinars, and we frequently talk with healthcare experts. So, we have ample access to diabetes prevention, overfat, and other healthcare research and news. We can provide services that can boost an organization's chances of making the right decisions, resolving issues and meeting objectives.

In the past, we concentrated on the aerospace industry, the computer industry, the air bag industry, and the healthcare industry. Several years ago, we began applying our expertise exclusively to the overfat segment of the healthcare industry. And a few years back, we added diabetes prevention to our focus.

Here are some of the things we can do: We can help a primary care practice integrate processes into the organization that deal with chronic diseases -- particularly diabetes prevention and overfat. We can navigate the healthcare industry and help a practice make diabetes prevention, overfat, and chronic disease related strategic decisions. We can work with an organization to determine which competitors, and other environmental forces, might affect the organization's success as it relates to diabetes prevention services.

In summary, we focus on diabetes prevention, overfat research and business issues. We help a primary care organization integrate diabetes prevention processes into the organization that deliver patient-centered, value-based, evidence-based services to patients. The processes can improve health outcomes, lower healthcare costs, and improve practice revenue.

We focus on the diabetes prevention and overfat segments of the healthcare industry. You should take a look at our company blog to read about diabetes prevention and overfat related business environmental issues and developments. On the blog, you will often see strategic approaches a primary care organization can use to improve patient health.
